EMDR Therapy in Ontario, Online in English and Spanish
I am EMDR trained, having completed the full EMDR therapy training, including practicum and clinical consultation. I offer EMDR online, in English or Spanish, to anyone located in Ontario.
Some experiences stay with us long after they’re over. A memory that still feels raw, a reaction that seems bigger than the moment, a body that tenses up before your mind even knows why. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process those experiences so they stop feeling so present.
What EMDR can help with
EMDR is best known for trauma, but “trauma” isn’t only big, dramatic events. It can also be experiences that left a mark: difficult childhood moments, losses, humiliation, accidents, medical experiences, relationship ruptures, or the stress of migration and starting over. People often come to EMDR for distressing memories, anxiety, panic, intense emotional reactions, negative beliefs about themselves (“I’m not enough,” “I’m not safe”), and grief.
How EMDR works
During EMDR, you briefly focus on a memory while following bilateral stimulation (for example, eye movements or alternating taps or sounds). This helps the brain reprocess the memory, so that it becomes less intense and the beliefs attached to it can shift. You stay in control the whole time, and you don’t need to describe every detail out loud.
What sessions look like
We don’t jump straight into difficult memories. EMDR follows a clear sequence:
- History and planning: we get to know your story and decide together what to work on.
- Preparation: you learn tools to feel grounded and calm, so you have resources before we start processing.
- Processing: we work on specific memories, one at a time. For these sessions I recommend 90 minutes, so a memory can be fully processed by the end of the session.
EMDR online, in your language
EMDR works well online. Sessions are done by secure video, and bilateral stimulation is adapted for the screen. You can do EMDR in Spanish, English, or a mix of both, whatever lets you connect most with your experience. For many people, painful memories live in the language they happened in.
Is EMDR right for me?
That’s exactly what we can explore together. In a free consultation, we can talk about what you’re going through and whether EMDR, another approach, or a combination makes the most sense for you.
